What to Do When Your Spouse Is Verbally Abusive
0 thumbs up   good
Abuse is abuse. Verbal, physical, mental – it’s all wrong and something needs to be done about it. If you are in an abusive relationship, you should know that there are things you can do to make it better – and keep yourself and your children from suffering with trauma and long-lasting damage. No one deserves to be humiliated, attacked verbally or in any other way. Here are some tips on what to do when your spouse is verbally abusive.

Learn to Love Yourself –

Before you can start helping your marriage and keeping your spouse from abusing you, you need to love yourself. Many people keep taking abuse because they feel in some irrational way that they deserve it. No one deserves to be abused in any way at all. You are valuable and wonderful in your own way and you need to realize this. Know that at any given time, there is someone out there looking for someone just like you and that they would never abuse you but rather cherish you and who you are. When you start to love yourself, you will not stand for anyone to put you down!

Seek Intervention –

Another thing you may want to do is suggest counseling or therapy for you and your spouse. Therapy can help your spouse get to the root issues which cause him or her to be verbally abusive. Therapy can also help you get to the root issue of why you allow him or her to do it. Therapy can really help the two of you come to a realization as well as helping you with confidence and self esteem issues. By seeking therapy, there is a chance that you can save your marriage if you still want to. If you don’t, therapy is still beneficial for you in many ways.

Leave –

If your spouse refuses to seek help and doesn’t want to hear what you have to say on the matter – you need to leave. A verbally abusive marriage is not a good one, it’s not a happy one or a healthy one. You deserve to have happiness, comfort, security and much, much more. You do not deserve to be abused every day from the person you are supposed to trust the most. If all else fails and your spouse refuses to cooperate, leave. If you need to call the police first and then tell your spouse you’re leaving, then so be it. At least they will be there to make sure your spouse stays in line and that you’re in the right. Call the police if you must but get out now.

When you follow the tips or tricks in this article, you can determine exactly what to do for your verbally abusive spouse. You don’t have to take it! Use this information to help empower you and get you into action. Good luck.
