The papers are signed and the divorce is now finally over. You may have dreamed of this moment, either out of anticipation or fear, but you're now ready for a change and need to regain control over your new life. But where to begin?
First, make a list of things you've always wanted to try, do, or see, from the seemingly insignificant to the monumental or impossible. Even if they're not the most realistic of goals, include them in the list anyway. Instead of being able to sail off across the ocean for a luxury cruise, there are still other ways you may be able to fulfill your dream.
For instance, if you've always dreamed of visiting France but may not have the finances to do so, immerse yourself in the culture, find out as much as you can about the country and the people who live there. Eat the food, learn the language, and start a savings account to start planning for a real trip in the future. Without a concrete plan in place, there'll never be a chance of realizing your dreams, regardless of how unfathomable they may seem right now.
If you are able to travel, there's no better time than the present to start enjoying and experiencing life. If you're the adventurous type, take a trip alone somewhere you've always wanted to visit to fully appreciate the area the way you want to see it. Or, take along a friend, family member, or your children, and remember to bring the camera to capture your new memories.
Dating and new meeting people have never been easier thanks to the internet and the many sites dedicated to singles looking for friends, companionship, or new love. Also, don't rule out places such as book stores, libraries, churches, and recommendations from friends or family if you're trying to get back into the dating scene.
If you're a divorcee with children, all of you can embark on new adventures together. Creating new and happy memories for your children post-divorce is one of the absolute best things you can do to help them through this potentially difficult time. Think of creative ways of building their self-esteem and confidence while just enjoying each other's company.
Children are not only great sports competitors, but are always eager to learn something new and exciting. Many communities have centers that offer classes or groups for a variety of sports and activities such as swimming, bowling, golfing, bicycling, gymnastics, aerobics, or arts and crafts.
Depending on your specific situation, there are many other things you can do to prepare for a new single life, such as opening a bank account or getting a credit card in your name to begin building your financial independence, or taking some classes at your local college or online to learn something new.
Switching careers, starting your own business, or even moving to a different area are other ways of implementing positive change into your life. Sometimes, just finding a new hobby is enough to not only jumpstart the sometimes daunting task of taking back control of your life, but also to change it for the better.
