Any time is difficult after you've gone through a divorce but the holidays can be a real drag. At a time that is supposed to be about family, love and togetherness – you can feel very alone, depressed and angry. Although it is a difficult time for someone who has recently divorced, you can still enjoy the holidays and have a great time. Here are some helpful tips for surviving the holidays after divorce.
Spending Time with Close Friends and Family –
This is one of the major tips for surviving the holidays after a divorce. When you are alone – it will be easier for you to get down in the dumps, remember past times and think about all those other things that will make you upset and sad. If you're with family and friends that love you, it's easier to have a good time and get into the spirit of the holidays.
When you're with your best friends and your closest family members – it will be easier to let loose and actually have a good time. If there's anything worse than being alone and depressed – it's pretending to have a good time when you're around other people. So, spend time with your close friends and family and really allow yourself to open up and enjoy it.
Be Good to Yourself –
Another great thing you can do to survive the holidays after a divorce is pamper yourself. Go out and get that great outfit you've had your eye on or that brand new mp3 player you've been wanting. Take some time out for yourself and visit a spa, a fishing camp, an attraction that you want to see. Visit the museum that you've always wanted to see. The point is to take the time and be good to yourself – a little extra pampering will make you feel better during the holidays.
Take Up a New Hobby –
If anything can get your mind off of the divorce during the holidays, it's a great new hobby. Perhaps you've always wanted to try painting, knitting, scrapbooking, carpentry or something else. When you devote your time and focus to a new hobby, you won't spend all your time dwelling on the divorce and your ex. You can really unlock your creativity and do something that you will enjoy. This is a great way to survive the holidays after a divorce.
By following the tips above, you can survive the holidays after a divorce – and chances are you might even enjoy them a little bit!
